Friends for Life

“Supporting Bedfordshire’s Care Homes and their Residents by providing volunteer visitors and facilitating links with the local churches.”

“The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson.

FRIENDS FOR LIFE is a registered charity. Our aim is to co-ordinate and develop the churches’ ministry to Care Homes and provide Personal Befrienders to Care Home Residents.

The project is enthusiastically endorsed by the Care Homes involved and Social Services.

More than 1,500 people live in care homes in the North Bedfordshire area.  Most, but not all, are older people.  Some have regular visits from friends and family but some have few or no visitors.  It is to those people we particularly look to stretch out the hand of friendship.

Some of the ways in which we help the Homes and churches are:

  • Supporting those visiting either as Ministers, friends or family.
  • Acting as a point of contact for Homes wishing to access the church family.
  • Signposting Homes and churches to relevant resources.
  • Providing Personal Befrienders to visit on a one to one basis.

If you are interested in Personal Befriending please see Volunteer page.
